Support THE SPIRIT OF TATÁ and help preserve the wisdom of indigenous cultures (texto em Português abaixo) The Spirit of Tatá is a feature-length documentary about 103-year-old Tatá Yawanawá, one of the oldest shamans in the Amazon Rainforest. The film follows Tatá’s final days, a historic and challenging time for the tribe as they confront the imminent loss of their beloved elder and one of the greatest living libraries of spiritual knowledge in the Amazon. Tatá safeguarded the sacred traditions through the difficult years of colonization, rubber tappers and missionaries. Faced with near extinction in the mid-1980s, the Yawanawá expelled the missionaries, with Tatá leading the way to restoring and reviving Yawanawá culture. The Yawanawá—and Tatá’s—story reflects what’s happening among indigenous peoples around the world: ancient cultures losing their elders and struggling to revive languages and traditions before they are lost forever. Once completed we will submit the film to festivals and hold special screenings within various indigenous communities in the Amazon and around the world.
