SpinOUT Color Guard Revival

Tax deductible
We are spinOUT, the Rainbow City Band Color Guard! And we have a problem…our flags disintegrated in storage, our poles are too short, and our uniforms don’t fit!  After taking a few year’s hiatus, we want to show our pride again and support our marching band this summer, but we can’t without proper uniforms and equipment.

Our goal

SpinOUT’s goal is to regain our former glory and buy standard-sized poles and uniforms for our new and revamped color guard!

We are dedicating our return season to one of our favorite color guard members, Daniel Tobias. He was the tiara wearing, rainbow tail waggling heart and soul of the color guard, and although he is no longer with us, his spirt of goodness, kindness, and pride live on with us as we perform.

Who we are

As part of Rainbow City Performing Arts (RPCA), a non-profit LGBTQI organization in Seattle, we are a group of people with a wide range of experience and skills that like to spin things. A lot. We have experienced guard members, people with just a couple years' experience under their belts, and people who are new but enthusiastic about learning. All of us have a great time putting on a show and wowing the crowds as we lead the marching band in their parades. And we enjoy practicing our own spinning skills as well as sharing what we know so the group as a whole can do more challenging and spectacular shows. We perform with the Rainbow City Band, which is comprised of 50 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied musicians who volunteer their time to perform in the Seattle area. The marching band was founded in 1998.

All donations are tax-deductible and you will receive a receipt in e-mail.

What we do
We accompany the Rainbow City Band to parades and festivals, putting on a visual show at the head of the band (in parades) or front-and-center (at festivals where we aren't marching) to accompany the band's music. This year, we plan to perform at parades in the Seattle, Bellingham, Vancouver BC Pride Festivals, Fremont Solstice, Vashon Island Strawberry Festival, and other Seattle-area events.

Our history
For the first ten years of its history, Rainbow City Band marched without a color guard (which made everyone sad). Finally, in 2008, one of our members volunteered to put together a color guard to march in summer parades. The band loved having a visual show to complement their music, and the guard performed with them for years. The color guard has been on hiatus for the last four years, and we are excited to start performing again.

RCPA provides opportunities for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and allied to share their musical talents through public performances. We foster music education, friendships and community giving. RCPA includes Purple Passion Swing Band, a concert band, marching band, color guard, and pep band among other ensembles.
