Spike it for Mike (Houlihan)

Donation protected
On August 1st Mike was involved in a serious car accident resulting from a seizure.   He was brought to Lahey Emergency Dept, and after numerous testing found to have a tumor in his temporal lobe.   He was transferred to Beth Israel Neurology for further testing.   The newest information on Mike's tumor is that it is cancerous - stage 2 glioma.

Removal is not an option since the tumor has infiltrated his entire temporal lobe- removing it would cause devastating cognitive and language effects.
At the moment they are waiting on genetic profiling portion of the test to come back - this will give them more information and finalize the treatment plan.
Tentatively the plan now is for intensive radiation therapy (5 days a week for 6 weeks)
Once genetic information is available they may add chemotherapy to the regimen as well.
This kind of tumor often regrows and usually comes back as a higher stage, more aggressive tumor.  Everyone is hopeful for the best.

Mike and Melissa have a long road ahead of them.  With all the uncertainties to come we hope to lessen their financial burden from the high cost of medical care, transportation, daycare for Liam, and inability to work at this time.   Please donate whatever amount you can.  Even a little will go a long way.  We know the family will be most appreciative.
