Spence + Cancer = COMMUNITY

For Spence cancer means new Community
Plus:  Update from Spence below.

The photo above is of Cynthia Berg Polson, a Healdsburg sculptor with our friend LeMarion Spence, natural juice entrepreneur and cancer explorer. Cynthia made the first gift to Spence's GoFundMe campaign. How 'bout you?  Photo by local photographer and Spence supporter, Barbara Bourne.

Some people who have had it end up saying that cancer is a gift. Why would they say that? Well, I've had some great long, soulful talks with my/our friend LaMarion Spence (we call him Spence, of course). He certainly thinks about it that way and how he feels in every way evolves constantly and eloquently.

One thing he intends for this experience -- for himself and those around him -- is that we will learn something and perhaps one thing we learn will be new ways for an entire community to support people who have these diagnoses and accompanying costs, health issues and emotional rollercoasters.

Spence was telling me that he isn't even worried in the least about the hundreds of thousands of dollars his treatments are adding up to . . . somehow things will take care of themselves. And he shares amazing stories of caring and generosity from our community that have nothing to do with money.

He was at the dry cleaners recently and the proprietor just told him to take the dry cleaning with her blessings. Another person donated an ad in her magazine to help support his fantastic new juice company.

So, it's not all about MONEY, honey. How can we nourish Spence in every way possible (never forgetting that money does help in the long run!). When you see him or think about him, think about what a person might need in his situation -- just about anything from a hug to a windfall.

As you may know, Spence is undergoing targeted therapies that are “non-traditional” cancer treatments, as opposed to chemo, surgery or radiation and he’s doing really well. However, these therapies are not covered by insurance and are very expensive.

UPDATE from Spence:
Experiencing some state-of-the-art treatments involving very specific targeted radiation of a small tumor guided by robotics. Fascinating stuff.

What can you do?

1. Donate ANY amount via GoFundMe -- please. (We've lowered our goal again -- this time to $20,000 . . . which is just a small portion of what is needed).

2. Post these updates on Facebook to your network.

Thank you, everyone!
