Speedie's WFC2018 Campaign 50 caps!

Donation protected
I am David "Speedie" Speldewinde, usually number 42 on the Australian men's floorball team. I have been selected for the Men’s World Floorball Championships 2018, which are being held in Prague, Czech Republic in December this year.

This will be my 11th international tour since 2007, and today marks 50 days until my 50th international game for Australia, something few players have achieved. It is a great honour to wear the green and gold and I feel great pride in having the opportunity to represent Australia in a sport that I love but I am seeking some help to get there via this GoFundMe campaign.

As an amateur and unfunded sport in Australia with often little sponsorship assistance available the cost of these tours rests solely on the players' shoulders. I can definitely relate to what Aussie women's player Jill Roberts says here  in her IFF blog post about the costs of loving floorball in Australia.

Having gone back to fulltime masters studies, I am seeking your support in easing the financial burden of playing for Australia in this sport that I love. I volunteer a lot of my time to raising the profile of and developing floorball in Australia and the ACT and would greatly appreciate any assistance people can offer. Today alone I spent more than 10 hours on floorball with this request last on today’s to-do list.

Money raised will go towards the following WFC costs:
- flights and other transport (~$1550)
- tour costs including accommodation in Prague, training camp prior to competition, uniforms and other associated expenses (~$3500)
- total (~$5050)

This WFC tour has quite some significance to me as a player, not just because of the 50 game milestone (current record 47 games, 24 goals, 11 assists), but also because of the challenges overcome to get there. The article by my 2016 sponsors Powerhouse Physiotherapy summarises some of those challenges here .  That article could have a part two following a similar injury recovery story with thanks to Powerhouse following a shoulder dislocation in late 2017 just prior to the Asia Oceania WFC Qualification tournament in Korea in January 2018.

I am so grateful for the support I have received from so many in that time and throughout my floorball career and thank everyone in advance for any support offered via this GoFundMe campaign whether that be words of encouragement, financial assistance or both.

Finally, I've decided that all donors will get one ticket in the draw and one bonus ticket for each $50 they donate for the chance to win my personally signed yellow Australian team #42 jersey from the 2018 WFC Qualification tournament in South Korea earlier this year (see photo). Also the largest single donation will be guaranteed to receive the jersey worn in my 50th game at WFC in Prague signed by the whole Australian team.

With sincere thanks, Speedie #42
