Special Education Awareness Film Series

What Really Goes On In the World of Special Education?

We are working on our film series "Special is the New Normal". It is based on true stories from the first two schools that I worked in.  I quickly found out how poorly many foster kids, "Juvenile Delinquents and wards of the state are mistreated.  I have made the effort to highlight things that go on in terms of physical and mental abuse as well as the over emphasis on medications for children who are diagnosed with disorders such as "bi-polar", "ADHD", "Asbergers" (some of which is not based on scientific fact, but the opinion of a psychiatrist etc... These children are sometimes labeled "At Risk" and "Emotionally Disturbed".

The best overall example that I have is when a person leaves an elderly family member in a nursing home and upon visitation finds scars or bed soars and the faculty doesn't seem to have a good explanation of how this happened.

With this film series I hope to educate as well as entertain because I have met students who not only have a sense of humor, but who are extremely talented, but simply are in need of right guidance.

Your contribution will be used for technical repairs and upgrades for cameras, lights, microphones and to help keep actors around by supporting them with food, transportation and gratitude for their time as they are acting at this stage in their careers for promotion.

I even have several students and teachers in the film who have been apart of the special education system and are happy to share their experiences and give their input.

Your donation would mean a lot to me as I am doing my best to bring these stories to life.
