Recently David Spaulding had to undergo unexpected emergency spinal cord surgery.
At the young age of 28, this hard working husband and loving father of two beautiful girls (8 and 2) was faced with tragic news that nobody could have predicted.
While in Portland Maine for a scheduled MRI exam, they discovered a ruptured disc that penetrated his central nerves within the spinal cord. At this moment he knew surgery was the only option. With less than a 30% chance that he would have use of his legs again, and having been the head boat mechanic over the years, David was devastated. The doctors had less than 1 cm of range for the procedure to send him wheel chair bound for life. Even though he was scared beyond imaginable, David was sure to stay strong and hold it together as to not worry his family.
The surgery was successful in that he can stand and has use of his legs for the most part, however the weakness in his legs may never change from permanent damage that occurred. With a 1 Year recovery, and halt in income, their bills are piling up. Everyday life is becoming a financial struggle for this young family. They are a proud group of hard working people who need a little help to remain on their feet until they can figure things out long term.
Any amount is greatly appreciated, and will be put to appropriate use in the most needed areas to help ease some of the stress during this long road to recovery.
