Sparrow Cafe needs your help!

Since 2013, we’ve been working long and hard at Sparrow to make it work with what we have.  It’s been a difficult task and as many of you know, we rent an off-site kitchen to bake our award winning scones, pastries and sandwiches early every morning. The kitchen rent has gone up and it has become unrealistic to keep paying 2 rents for a small coffee shop.  We started installing a small oven in Sparrow last year, but only got as far as buying the oven and upgrading the electrical, but more needs to be done to make a functioning kitchen.


The plan is to do more at Sparrow than we can do now, so we need to get some equipment and make a few upgrades to the space to make that happen.


Here are the key elements;

Extra plumbing that the city requires to add an additional prep sink.
2-3 more coolers.  We've had two coolers break down that we haven't been able to replace.
A small ventless oven so that we can bake our muffins, scones, cookies, etc. 

Also remember the Polar Vortex?!  
Besides having to close twice for the extreme snow, business was way down this past winter.
We also need help getting caught up on past due bills including rent, taxes, and vendor payments. We could really use the funds soon.  Any amount will help support us and help keep Sparrow Cafe going.

Sparrow is a small shop, it's been a challenge to do more within the confines of the limited space, but with a little help we hope we can provide more to the neighborhood, and help make your day a little brighter!


Sparrow Cafe is the only coffee shop serving exclusively Bird Friendly Certified (BFC) coffee.  BFC is a really big deal, although most people have never heard of it.  In short it's the most strict environmental certification, starting out organic and adding more restrictions to help preserve habitats (thus bird friendly) and increasing coffee quality but declining quantity.  This makes BFC coffee expensive, which is the main reason why you don't see it everywhere, up 3 or 4x what other coffeeshops pay.  With that said, we try to keep our prices competitive with other coffee shops in the area.  We strongly believe that we all need to do what we can to support better environmental practices, that's why all of our cups have always been compostable, and we always strive to provide compostable straws, cutlery, bags, and so on, in addition to serving Bird Friendly Certified coffee.
