"All that glitters is not gold " but in Sparkles case it will be. All 3.5 pounds of her. But for such a little tiny 8 year old speck she sure has endured a not so glittery life. After being found abandoned in an apartment complex in Lowell she has been given away we estimate of at least 6 times. Her last home only lasted 5 days. Each time she thought she would no longer be a pocket book object and become a real family member the systems failed her. Every home couldn’t or wouldn’t pursue her mounting medical issues. Burt's Brigade was called because Sparkles next home was going to be a city shelter. Her quiet sweetness made her kissable but not fixable and homeless. After all, who wants an unspayed senior dog with 2 large mammillary masses, a mouth full of extreme infection caused by rotten teeth, swollen lymph nodes and smelly ears. We can't imagine the pain she has been in and think it's been a very long time due to her malnourishment and atrophied muscles.
Sparkle is now in the care of Burt's Brigade and we will be giving her a forever home. Dr. Carolyn M Selavka of Baystate Mobile Veterinary Services in Charlton Mass. will be taking the lead to make this little one well and sparklely. Dr. Selavka believes it will take 3-6 months of medical treatment and surgeries. Many started following this little girls story 2 weeks ago when we initially called out for a forever home. Our priority now is for her to know love and cure the infection. She was placed on Metacam for pain and Clindamycin for the infection. It is estimated that the antibiotics protocol must run at least 20 - 30 days with blood checks and medication rests in between. Once we are confident the infection is clear Sparkles will go in for the first dental surgery. We cannot do the dental right now without the risk of the infection breaking off and traveling to her heart and other organs. After the dental she will be allowed to rest for 6 weeks and then return for the tumor surgery and possible spaying. If the tumors are cancerous Dr. Carol is confident because of the locations and mass type that Sparkles will have a good long life outcome. These type of tumors tend not to spread fast and remain contained. We are to stay focused on eating, with at least a 1/2 pound weight gain and rebuild of muscle tone. We need the power of prayer that the malnourishment is do to extreme neglect and not cancer . And top priority is her mental well being and happiness. Burt's Brigade has got that part covered ten fold...but we need help financially with these initial incoming medical hurdles financially. We can assure you that regardless of the outcome of this fund me rally Sparkles will not go without the care she needs.
"All that glitters is not gold " but in Sparkles case it will be. We guarantee it.
Thank you so much on behalf of Sparkle,
