Our Spain Dream

Julia and I sold everything we had and took our life savings and embarked on our dream of running our own restaurant in Spain. Since we first met we have had a dream of doing this. We talked about it for years and it has now fallen into place almost magically. Everything pointed us to go here and fell into place effortlessly and sometimes downright cosmically. Some of our friends thought we were crazy, but most stood behind us. We had six months to endure before season hit since we ended up starting late. My mother fell ill this summer and passed away. We skipped the summer season and spent every last minute we had with her while she was here. I wouldn't change that for any of this. This was going to be tough and we knew that. We have made it here for four of those six months and while some aspects have gone phenomenal, everyone LOVES the food, we received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, there are a few other that have not gone anywhere near according to plan as one would expect. We have a good team and did have a great run for the fall considering the off season and made some money. However, it has not off set the money we had reserved for the bad luck that was sure to strike. The main reason is largely due to our lawyer who sent us down a long, (and wrong) expensive path. This compounded the financial issues we knew we would face. We now have to get a new lawyer an face new expenses. While we did plan for a lot of out of pocket expenses, the hidden or unexpected, we hoped the worst would not happen by all of them coming at once and quadruple what we planned. We have pretty much exhausted all other channels before doing this fund raising, so this is kind of our last hope. That said, the amount listed here is the full amount needed (including exchange rate), but we are still working other avenues such as loans to contribute to that number ourselves as well. Those are difficult for us to get being here in Spain.

We now have to make it through January and February with no income and no money. Once March hits, and season starts, we can reopen the restaurant and continue on. We will not make it without some sort of intervention. At this point anything will help. 10, 20 or 50 dollars from many can make a huge difference. If we fail now, we loose everything and have to pack up and go home broke. If we make it to March, we can continue our dream of running the restaurant here in Spain. This is everything to us and we laid it all out on the line to pursue it and we are so close to fulfilling it that we cannot let it crash before it truly starts. If it were to crash because we couldn't run the restaurant we would be ok with that, but not because of the misfortune of having a horrible lawyer. We can still right the ship and continue on course, but we need some help.

We need some of the funds right away to pay for some end of year bills. The money will go to rent, lease of the restaurant, bills and and a little survival money like groceries and fire wood... because it's really cold here right now! Some is needed to cover some re-opening costs. If we can survive this we will get to continue our dream, if not, we will loose it all before we really even get to start. We will treat any and all of you to a wonderful time here if you can come visit in return for your help! If you need your donation returned and we make it, please let us know and we will do that as soon as possible! We do not want to ask for free money we just need the help to make it a little bit further.
