Sovuzwa Educare Center

Donation protected
The Rotary Club of Albert Park is raising funds to help support the Sovuzwa Early Childhood Educare Centre in South Africa.

The centre is a family-run childcare facility managed by Nomonde Dyani, located in the township of Khayelitsha.

Nomonde spends all her time focusing on the needs of the children, and yet she can't provide for their educational needs or basic comforts. Her students often take their naps on the floor with only a blanket, without mats.

Khayelitsha is an informal settlement/slum in West Cape, South Africa, and is regarded as one of the poorest communities in the country.

Nomonde runs the facility to support the local community, allowing parents to seek work and support their families by providing a safe and caring environment for their children during the day.

The facility is part of Nomonde's home, and is in desperate need of additional equipment, toys, bedding and educational material.

The home is on the edge of the community and is a solid brick home - not a shack in which many of the children normally live.

Rotary Albert Park is seeking to raise AUD$1000 to support Nomonde to upgrade her facility including:

- Additional children's tables & chairs
- Toys and educational material
- Replacing the flooring and ceiling
- Adding additional doors to the shared bathroom
- Repair to water supply and adding electric light fittings for the children's area

Aside from the children in the Centre, Nomonde also looks after three children from her recently deceased sister.

Nomonde  is passionate about caring for children in her community, and we are hoping to support her in this worthwhile cause.

With your help Nomonde will be able to provide a safe and comfortable environment for every child, meeting their basic needs so they are ready to learn and socialise the way children should be able to.

All funds raised will be managed and disbursed to the Centre via the Rotary Club of Newlands, South Africa, on behalf of Rotary Albert Park. A progress report will be provided to all donors and supporters of this project.
