</div>
</div>

</div>

<div>Ecuador is currently facing unprecedented brutal repression and the criminalization of the social movement.
</div>
<div>On September 13, 2025, the government of Daniel Noboa eliminated the diesel subsidy through Executive Decree No. 126, raising its price from approximately USD 1.80 to USD 2.80 per gallon. This measure was seen by various organizations and citizens as a direct blow to their economy, as many Indigenous and rural communities depend on diesel for agricultural transport, access to markets, and basic services.
</div>
<div>In response, CONAIE (the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador) called for an indefinite national strike. The State’s reaction was massive repression: the government declared a state of emergency, extending it to a total of twelve provinces, accompanied by a strong military deployment. Furthermore, a significant strategy employed was the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Indigenous leaders and organizations, which CONAIE denounced as an attempt to “criminalize social protest” and weaken the mobilization. Protests were met with excessive use of force, including excessive use of tear gas.
</div>
<div>The toll is tragic. As of October 15 (a date noted in our conversation history, though the source confirmed the information as of September 15), the deaths of Efraín Fuérez, Rosa Paqui, and José Guaman — three Indigenous community members — have been confirmed, along with hundreds of injuries. Gunshot injuries have also been confirmed during the protests.
</div>
<div>The urgency is medical and human: Police have been detaining injured community members directly from their hospital beds. Fearing arrest, the injured are now taking refuge in homes, where they are being cared for by volunteer doctors and family members.
</div>
<div>Your donations are crucial for the purchase of medicine, emergency medical assistance, and food for the communities in resistance.

<div>Given the state’s racist discourse spread through official media, criminalizing the protest, get informed and spread the word using these independent sources :
