I'm delighted that we've reached the 1st Stage in this campaign - massive thanks to everyone who's contributed so far. The £4000 raised went towards going into the studio in Nashville, with my producer Neilson Hubbard and some amazing musicians, including guitarist Will Kimbrough, and recording all the tracks for the album. I'm delighted with how they've come out and I can't wait to share with you.

Unfortunately, because of the £ plummeting against $ last year, there was a shortfall from my original estimates, so I've now set a "stretch" target of £6000 to cover:
- Mastering of the tracks at Yes Master, Nashville by Jim DeMain, who made such a great job of my Into the Sea album.
- Designing the artwork for the sleeve
- Video - If I reach the full amount, I will be making a video for the first single which is due out at the end of this year.
The CD itself is due for release early 2018 (I should have some exciting label news to share soon), but signed copies (and the downloads) will be available much earlier.
I've added an extra reward level - £40 (Chinooks) - which includes 2 FREE tickets for any headline gig I’m doing in the next year. If you've already contributed and want to top up your donation to take advantage of that, just add the difference and I'll pick it up from there.

THE STORY
My name is Dean Owens and I’m a singer songwriter from Leith, Scotland.
I’ve been making music for over 20 years, including with my first band The Felsons. I’ve recorded 6 solo albums to date, including 2 – Whisky Hearts and Into the Sea – in Nashville, USA.
Into the Sea (released in 2015) was recorded with the brilliant producer Neilson Hubbard at his Mr Lemons Studio, Nashville, with a host of amazing musicians including award winning guitarist Will Kimbrough, Kim Richey and Suzy Bogguss. I was confident that it was my best work to date, and the reviewers seemed to agree with me, giving it 4 and 5 star reviews, listing it on several Best of 2015 lists (including at #5 in the Sunday Herald Best Albums list). It got me several live radio sessions including one on the legendary “Whispering” Bob Harris Radio 2 show Bob Harris Country, and on his own Under the Apple Tree TV sessions.
The time is now approaching to record a follow up, which will be called Southern Wind, Northern Town. I have loads of great ideas for new songs which I’ve been working on with Will Kimbrough, who is co-writing some songs with me. Neilson is very keen to work with me again. The songs for Southern Wind have been very much inspired by my trips to Nashville, Southern characters and folklore. We are all very excited about the ideas we’ve been discussing for how to build on, and develop, what we did on Into the Sea.
However… there’s a challenge. I’m in Scotland and the studio and the musicians are in USA. We can do lots of stuff in advance via the internet, but at some point I’m going to have to go to Nashville to do the actual recording. And while I can pull in lots of favours, travel and these great musicians don’t come cheap.
Which is why I’ve set up this crowdfunding appeal. I need to raise around £4,000 towards the recording, travel and accommodation costs. If I manage to raise any more than that it will go towards making a video and other promotional costs which will all help to give the new album its best possible chance.
I don’t expect you to contribute for no rewards though and there are lots of goodies (including being the first to get a copy of the finished album, with your name on the sleeve as a supporter) which I hope will tempt you to support me! Rewards start at £10 but you can contribute less. Or more! Any amount you like from £1. Please know that every little bit helps, and all donations are hugely appreciated.
All supporters will receive a link to an exclusive track - a demo of the Southern Wind title track, recorded with amazing guitarist Will Kimbrough - (for free download) within a week of their contribution being received.
