Stock The Barn Fundraiser

In March of 2016, we bought a small farm in North Central Florida with intentions of having a hobby farm.  A friend called Susan in September about horses that were located in killpens awaiting transport to slaughter.

Within the week, Brego and Arwen were at the farm.  Our original intentions were that these 2 would be the only residents of Southern Redhead Farms but while browsing Facebook,  a small colt who was located at a kill pen in Louisiana caught Susan's eye.  Something about this colt tugged at her heartstrings: he looked frightened and she could tell that something about the way he moved was not right.  Immediately, the fee was paid and the rescue worked on getting him transported to a quarantine farm and having a vet check him out. In his first 3 months of life, this baby was neglected and abused which left him with injuries well beyond physical ones.  He was brought to the farm to be loved and to heal his mind as well.  He was named Phoenix because his old life was in the past and we hoped that he would be able to rise from the ash heap of his old life to a new and wonderful one.

With this one horse, Southern Redhead Farms Rescue, Inc. was born.   The Rescue currently has 27 horses and donkeys in our care:

Brego, Arwen, Rowan, Shea, George, Gracie, Charlie, Aine, Falyn, Epona, Beibhinn, Jackson, Claire, LuLu, Seamus, Deaglan, Frances, Tierney, Caoilainn, Malachi, Conan, Bre, Saint, Calai, Aibhlinn, Darcy, and Muirheal.

Of our 27 horses, 5 of them are permanent residents at Southern Redhead Farms Rescue because of age or permanent injury.  Some horses suffer such horrific abuse that they are never able to physically or mentally recover.

Southern Redhead Farms Rescue's primary purpose is to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected horses, donkeys, mules, and burros, and to facilitate the surrender of horses by owners unable to provide adequate care. In doing that, the Rescue will give refuge to them by providing a peaceful, safe, and loving home. The Rescue's secondary purpose is to coordinate adoptions into safe forever homes for our rescued animals.

Southern Redhead Farms Rescue is a 501(c)(3) horse rescue organization located in North Central Florida and dedicated exclusively to Equines such as horses, donkeys, mules, and burros.  As a young nonprofit operating on a small budget, we are extremely proud of the number of horses we have been able to save.  We hope that as our organization grows, so will our positive impact.

Southern Redhead Farms Rescue is seeking a minimum of $10,000 in donations so that we may increase our rescue and rehabilitation efforts and provide better quality of care to our current horses.

We are raising funds to complete a 10-stall horse barn, purchase a horse trailer to transport horses for vet services, improve quarantine pens, and complete a round pen for training. With these new facilities, Southern Redhead Farms Rescue will be able to rescue and rehabilitate more horses and involve more volunteers.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome these horses and donkeys into their safe forever homes.

Southern Redhead Farms Rescue is designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity by the IRS and a non-profit corporation by the State of Florida. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
