We are a group of people that want to support the families arriving in Southampton from Ukraine and want to build a strong community for them to feel a sense of belonging.

Our group so far consists of various nationalities, Ukrainian, Romanian, Polish, Russian/Ukrainian, Czech, English, and a couple of multi-lingual people based in Poland and Ukraine that can help with translations and paperwork etc.

 

We understand that befriending and offering one-to-one support to asylum seekers and refugees arriving from the horrific experiences of Ukraine can be a daunting experience, so giving a welcoming and friendly offering will make the transition to the UK a bit easier.

 

We have been offered various halls to operate from, more in the process of being contacted, and we hope to build a community of support across the city to help the families arriving in Southampton after such a traumatic experience.

 

We are going to be running a Saturday club that will offer connections, youth activities, Tea & Coffee morning, emotional support, translation, signposting to essential services, etc.. and any help they may need.

We have been offered support from Southampton City Mission with access to food banks and clothing banks and soft start equipment for families arriving in the UK.

 

Therefore, we would like to raise funds to enable us to have a successful start-up, such as refreshment making facilities, toys and resources for the younger visitors, access to laptops/webcams for families to maintain contact with families in Ukraine and daily running costs such as small rental charges.
We would also like to offer welcome packages for families.
