Southampton Project

The Fire Brigade Museum is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation that raises funds to support 999 workers suffering from mental illness.

Additionally, we give opportunities to young people 12-25, suffering from mental illness and learning difficulties to gain vocational qualifications.

We have recently become custodians of two fire appliances from the Southampton Fire Brigade which ceased to exist on amalgamation into the Hampshire Fire Brigade in 1974

Both Fire Appliances are in need of extensive restoration. Preserving these Fire Appliances is important to prevent the loss of the history of Southampton's own Fire Brigade.

Our aim is to have the Fire Appliances restored to mark the 50th Anniversary of the end of Southampton Fire Brigade on 1st April 2024.

The Appliances will become permanent Museum exhibits alongside artefacts and stories of the Firemen (as they were) who served in Southampton Fire Brigade.
