However, the Sheridan Avenue playground is not what it used to be. Most of the playground equipment is between 20-60 years old. It is not only outdated, but now it is starting to reach the point of being unsafe for our children. Additionally, a review of the equipment indicated that most of the equipment did not meet current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards keeping children from enjoying the playground.
We, as a Recreation Board, would love to pay for new equipment but there is simply not enough funds to make this happen without help. The estimates to fix and replace the playground are over $200,000. We are currently working on a Grant as well as a Foundation Donor and are over 60% of the way there. We are looking to business in the community to help us raise the final 40% we need.
By making a donation you will help us give the Greensburg area children a safe and accessible place to play. Playgrounds are a major part of a child’s development and are vital to the community. Playgrounds do not only provide a physical place for kids to play, they also build a child’s self-esteem, show them the value of a community and teach life skills.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
