Two Sheds Workshop NSW fire habitat box building

Donation protected
At Two Sheds Workshop we provide a safe and fun environment for women and children to learn wood working skills. Our base is in the Bega Valley NSW and our community has been seriously affected by the ongoing fires that have ravaged our precious bush land and homes and our native animals and birds.

Living through such an event leaves us with a lot to process and can lead to a feeling of helplessness.

Two Sheds has been running workshops and classes for over 5 years and we have seen over and over that making and doing things with their hands has a profound effect on people. It is empowering and fulfilling to be able to change our immediate environment, it gives us self confidence and a sense of comfort to be able to rely on ourselves. Learning new skills and to use tools and doing this alongside others is a way to rebuild our lives and our community both physically and mentally. It is motivating, builds confidence and self reliance and makes us feel capable to help ourselves and others. We have also seen how easy it is to connect and share experiences with others while you are building and learning side by side.

We have all been affected by the severe impact these fires are having on our wildlife.
In the past we have worked with local ecology, landcare and catchment management groups and the Bega Valley Shire Council to build habitat boxes for threatened species. We have also run workshops for the public that teach the skills and know how to build them.

We at Two Sheds feel the best way we can support and contribute to our community is to open our workshop to build habitat boxes for our wildlife.
We will run workshops for women and mixed gender groups. We will also have workshops for children as they relate closely with animals and will benefit greatly from feeling that they can help them directly.
And everyone will learn woodworking skills as they help the wildlife.

The wildlife habitat boxes to be built with this initiative will be going to local native fauna and flora specialists and will be placed in strategic ways and places to aid the ongoing recovery of species populations and healthy habitats.

We have the premises, set up, tools and the teaching skills to smoothly run these workshops but we need the necessary materials to do so. Raising money for this, rather than asking for donations of materials, enables us to purchase them from our local suppliers thereby supporting their businesses in our community.

So as we say at Two Sheds……Come and Build Yourself!
Or in this case help us to support others to Build Themselves in the Bega Valley NSW community.
