Les séniors en R.D. Congo connaissent de nombreuses difficultés d'ordre médical mais aussi social et juridique. C'est pour pallier l'absence de moyens financiers, de structures d'encadrement et d'hébergement que le docteur Pascal Kayembe Misheke a créé l'association ABES (Action pour le bien-être des séniors) en 2015 afin de venir en aide aux personnes âgées isolées, en milieu rural, et en situation de grande précarité en R.D. Congo, dans la région de Bukavu à l'Est du pays plus spécifiquement. L'association a mis en place un programme ambitieux qui prend la forme de 3 équipes de soutien : une équipe médicale mobile, une équipe d'assistance sociale et une équipe axée sur le développement des mesures liées à l'autonomie financière des séniors. Les défis et les besoins sont considérables, notamment dans cette partie de la R.D. Congo (Nord et Sud Kivu).
