<div>La construction d'infrastructures pérennes en prévision de l'hiver 2025-2026 prendra la forme d'un centre de ressourcement et de transmission des savoirs et des connaissances ancestrales vivantes Atikamewk Nehirowisiw Aski. Sur le long terme, le camp du km 134 demeurera un espace de surveillance et de protection des zones protégées et de défense des droits ancestraux, qui implique obligatoirement la consultation des chefs héréditaires avant toutes formes d'extraction des ressources.

<div>Camp Souveraineté, at km 134 on the Parent Road, is located on the unceded ancestral territory belonging to hereditary chiefs Robert Echaquan and Jean-Paul Echaquan. The site is adjacent to the ancestral land of the Weizineau family, whose member Martial Weizineau defends it alongside the Echaquan chiefs on behalf of his family.

<div>Permanent infrastructure is being built in preparation for winter 2025–2026, in the form of a wellness and cultural transmission center dedicated to living Atikamekw Nehirowisiw Aski ancestral knowledge. In the long term, the km 134 camp will remain a space for monitoring and protecting protected areas and for defending ancestral rights, which necessarily requires consultation with hereditary chiefs before any form of resource extraction.

<div>In addition to maintaining continuous monitoring against illegal logging, the land guardians are building facilities to welcome Atikamekw people living in nearby towns who wish to reconnect with their roots. Some have left their communities to work in municipalities and now have limited access to ancestral Nehirowisiw Aski knowledge.

<div>During organized stays, they will be able to learn to hunt, fish, gather fruits and medicinal plants, and care for Mother Earth as their ancestors did. This place of transmission is open to all who wish to reconnect with their language and identity.

<div>Life in the forest, on Nehirowisiw Aski territory, takes its full meaning through the practice of the Atikamekw language, which allows understanding of the land and the beings who share it.

<div>Furthermore, the km 134 camp will allow youth from Manawan, Obedjiwan, and Wemotaci to live the identity of their territory and thrive through this shared experience of life on the land.
