Some "Special Soup" For Mom....

       I want to thank you once again for all the love and support my mom and family has received over the past few months. It is because of everyone that the process was made easier and I know my brothers were overjoyed by the ample amount of food selection in the fridge over the past few months.

As you have probably read on the caring bridge website, my mom's cancer continues to grow in her lung, but luckily it is still contained and has not spread. In the meantime, my mom is taking a few months off from chemo to gain some weight and strength before having another round of chemo in the fall. Her spirits are good and for the first time in months, food is the first thing she thinks of when she wakes up....lately it has been fish tacos :-) 

My brothers, William, Henry, Ben,and myself have been busy making sure she gets her greens, and every morning mom has been indulging herself in my cottage cheese and flaxseed oil spread on toast. Together we have been researching other complimentary medicines, such as vitamins, but one that has caught our attention is a "soup" by Sun Farm. 

This "soup" was created by a Dr. Sun, during his time as a professor at Yale University School of Medicine and tenured faculty member at the Mount Sinai Hospital, when his mother was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. His mother was older and wasn't responding to chemo, so he began to research herbs and other natural foods he could give to her in soup form. He reported that his mother went into remission after taking his soup for several months. Others had such great success with it that a clinical study was done on it at the Mt.Sinai hospital in New York with stage 3 and 4 non-small cell lung cancer patients.

Two of the patients in the clinical study only used the "soup" as opposed to western medicine and showed regression of lung lesions and the stability of other lesions for 39 months. Ten of the thirteen patients receiving conventional treatment with the soup had no new sites of metastasis during the trial period. The median and mean survival period of the control patients (those not receiving treatment) was 4 and 4.8 months, but the median and mean of those receiving the "soup" was 15.5 and 15 months.

 There are many other details I could give and yes, there are a few flaws in the study, such as not enough people were tested, but despite this, I believe this is something that would be well worth my mom trying. Even if it means just stabilizing her tumors and making her body stronger before her next round of chemo.

I told my mom of this soup a few months ago and she was very interested in it, but it was the price that made her a bit weary. It is $1,000 for a 30 day supply and they recommend three months to see the benefits of it, which is the amount of months my mom has off till chemo again. It is expensive, so my brothers and I are hoping that you can help us out while we put money towards it from our paychecks. My mom doesn't know I have created this page.

I have been in contact with the company and read the praises of this product in the UCLA medical journal as well during my time at school. Furthermore, this soup is now discussed as a popular complementary medicine by many doctors at major hospitals and cancer centers around the country, such as the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas.
