Other updates share news and gratitude as we move along. Pema has always had Chiara looking out for her, hacking their way to much of the right treatment for Pema even without knowing the cause. Chiara has been on her own for decades of troubled times in health care. When inaccurate diagnosis meets impossible delays and maxed-out health workers, it can cost everything a person has. Chiara has seriously struggling kidneys, liver, and GI system, and some degree of pain every single day. Her eyesight is significantly damaged and she has episodes of partial paralysis of her left side multiple times a week during a flare-up. High blood pressure and impeded blood flow make stroke a constant risk. Pema’s disease is gentler, but she still requires Vet treatment and regular testing to know how her body is responding. Good news: REMISSION IS ACHIEVABLE. Some damage reversal might be possible as well. Friends have been locating experts on natural and conventional autoimmune therapies for both of them, and comparing two kinds of stem cell transplants and neurovascular interventions for Chiara. She and Pema will both try the least invasive, most natural options first and move on to things with more risks and side effects as necessary. Fortunately, years of embodiment work and somatic experiencing have attuned her to readily know when she’s onto something and when she’s not. For decades, Chiara was forced to fight for tests and consults -- and to fight a losing battle with grossly inaccurate, recklessly endangering patient profiling. The latter tragically led to her being violently assaulted in hospital, causing injuries she still has not overcome. Outrageously, Chiara is still being told to wait quietly at the back of the line in Canada. Travel to treatment which does not come with destructive wait times and whistleblower retaliation is essential. Pema and Chiara can start first rounds of treatment and preparatory tests for what’s next as soon as they have the funds. Generous friends Lauren Bacon, Maggie McKee and Brian King have been heading up fundraising to get them this far. There can only be one official Gofundme Organizer, so that is Chiara herself to allow for accurate updates, faster responses across time zones, and direct communication of overwhelming gratitude. Funds raised will be used to pay for treatment and travel/living expenses to get these two to baseline health and Chiara back to work. Any surplus will be divided equally among charity initiatives serving survivors of the experiences and barriers Chiara and Pema know first-hand: Lupus, #metoo, PTSD/trauma dogs, homelessness, and the Humane Society.
