READ, RESTORE, RENEW
Soulful Chicago Book Fair literary events happen year-round and require funding to keep their literary engines running. In just 3 years, we are on our 8th large book event! Between 50 and 85 authors are represented at each book fair, coming from states throughout the country such as Maryland, Florida, California, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Texas! Lovers of Black literature come to our events in the hundreds and have reached a maximum of approximately 4500 visitors to the south side of Chicago!
We have and will feature:
July 2016 - 1 st Main Event
December 2016 - 1st Kwanzaa Book Fair
February 2017 - 1st Black History Book Fair
July 2017 - 2nd Main Book Fair
December 2017 - 2nd Kwanzaa Book Fair
February 2018 - 1st CPL African-American Lit fest Debut
July 2018 - 3rd Main Event
December 2018 - 3rd Holiday Book Fair
April 2019 - Burst Into Books Children's Book Fair
August 2019 - 4th Main Book Fair
Soulful Chicago Book Fairs make READing and writing popular in the Black community, by presenting culturally relevant materials and activity in engaging, literary settings.
They RESTORE value and integrity to the literary arena, in neighborhoods currently pigeon-holed as "violent" environments.
And this is done all while galvanizing city-wide literacy organizations, and RENEWing the Black Literary Marketplace for Chicago's newly identified 400+ Black writers. These authors are telling the stories of Black people, without bias and for proper representation of Black life and culture throughout the African Diaspora.
By donating today, you help us pay for facilities, marketing, administration, programming and all that it takes to eliminate "book deserts" throughout the south side of Chicago.
Together we'll strengthen a powerful Black literary legacy for years to come.
