CRISIS IN VENEZUELA
The people of Venezuela are currently suffering an extremely dire political and humanitarian
crisis, which has set off violent civil unrest throughout the country.There have been over 85
civilian casualties; most of these deaths have been caused by government forces. Mounting
inflation, exacerbated by falling oil prices and the erosion of government subsidies, have
created the perfect storm. There are widespread food shortages as well as a dearth of medical
supplies and basic necessities.
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of concerned Venezuelan expatriates living in the US who have watched, with
great concern, the suffering currently racking the entire country. We have taken
upon ourselves the responsibility to help the children of the State of Miranda, the second
largest state in Venezuela. Over 52% of the children in the state are at risk of suffering, or
already suffer, malnutrition.
WHAT WE DO
School-age children in Miranda State receive a daily meal provided by local groups working in
the most precarious areas. Through the assistance of NGOs, community leaders, and volunteer
moms, these children have been able to count with a stable source of food for the past year.
However, as the school year comes to an end and summer vacation nears, many of these
children are facing the prospect of insufficient nutritional support. Our goal is to raise enough
funds that last throughout the summer period and ,if possible, for longer, in order to assist this
state wide initiative and continue this program over time.
