Care amiche, cari amici,
all’inizio dell’emergenza che ha colpito il nostro Paese vi comunicammo che a tempo debito vi avremmo scritto per informarvi sullo stato di salute finanziaria dello ZOO.
Come sapete a seguito delle misure decise dal Governo per contenere l’emergenza sanitaria tutte le attività del Circolo sono state sospese. Ad oggi non è ancora possibile sapere quando potremo riprendere i corsi, le serate con musica dal vivo, la nostra vita associativa generale. Ciò che già sappiamo è che il rientro sarà graduale e avverrà per fasi, come sta avvenendo per tutte le altre attività del Paese. La natura stessa della nostra passione è al centro di questa emergenza. Dovremo avere pazienza, senza perdere la fiducia.
Lo ZOO non è un luogo qualsiasi. Lo ZOO rappresenta o ha rappresentato una seconda casa per molti di noi, un “porto sicuro che attende le navi in cerca di riparo dalle tempeste della frenetica quotidianità che sta là fuori” come ci ha scritto una nostra amica e socia, il luogo dove trascorrere le mattine, i pomeriggi, le serate, le notti, in compagnia di nuovi e vecchi amici, della musica dal vivo, del gin&tonic, della colazione dopo lo yoga, della maglia e del tè; il luogo dove respirare attraverso il movimento, dove vivere una passione appena nata, un ballo cercato per anni e mai trovato; il luogo dove festeggiare il Natale con gli amici, lontano da casa eppure a casa; il luogo delle scarpe dimenticate e poi ritrovate, dei momenti di sofferenza, ma anche di grande gioia, delle notti che diventano alba a forza di ballare, di un sorriso negato ma anche regalato, di un abbraccio timido, ma sincero, dell’emozione di sentirsi liberi nel ballo, nel movimento, nella musica.
Il luogo dove poter essere, semplicemente e unicamente, se stessi.
Dal 2007, nello stabile di via Fiume a Udine, in questo opificio degli anni ’20 ristrutturato a loft, è passato un pedacito de historia del tango e non solo: quasi tutte le migliori orchestre di Buenos Aires ed europee, DJs, la nuova generazione di ballerini e ballerine, letture, incontri, mostre, amici, tanti. Lo ZOO è un punto di riferimento per il tango, non solo in regione.
Sempre cercando di essere ospitali e ospitanti in questi anni abbiamo proposto discipline nuove e a volte alternative, presentandole con curiosità e professionalità: tra i pochi in regione a tenere stabilmente corsi di Gyrokinesis e Gyrotonic, nell’ultimo periodo stavamo lanciando Yoga&Breakfast e Danza per Non Danzatori.
La nostra anima sociale ha abbracciato l’affascinante mondo dello swing, coinvolgendo una nuova generazioni di giovani ed entusiasti ballerini e ballerine: questa nuova realtà, grazie a volitive e vulcaniche collaborazioni, ha creato uno spazio sociale e musicale che in città mancava, creando le condizioni perché questo ballo e la musica dal vivo si incontrassero.
E a giugno 2019, sostenuti dall’incredibile entusiasmo dei soci, abbiamo dato vita ad un progetto al momento unico in Italia: la creazione di un’orchestra stabile di tango argentino, la Transónica Tango Orchestra.
L’emergenza COVID – 19 ha colpito l’Associazione mentre si trovava in una delicata fase finanziaria, esposta per gli investimenti fatti per ristrutturare lo ZOO e per sostenere la Transónica Tango Orchestra nella sua fase iniziale di sviluppo. Anche a spazio chiuso l’Associazione ho dovuto comunque sostenere le spese sia fisse per la gestione dello spazio sia amministrative.
In questo periodo molti di voi ci hanno fatto sentire il proprio affetto e hanno espresso il desiderio di voler sostenere lo ZOO. Vi ringraziamo profondamente.
Apriamo così una raccolta fondi il cui ricavato servirà ad aiutare a traghettare lo ZOO attraverso questa complessa congiuntura economica fino alla ripresa delle normali attività. Sappiamo bene che è un momento economicamente difficile per tutti: qualsiasi cifra sarà importante e apprezzata. Tante gocce fanno il mare.
Con l’aiuto di tutti potremo:
- continuare a pagare le spese di gestione del Circolo: affitto, assicurazione, bollette, commercialista, segreteria, tasse
- continuare a pagare le rate del debito di 5.000 € contratto con la banca e utilizzato per l’ultima ristrutturazione dello spazio
- permetterci di adeguare lo ZOO alle nuove disposizioni di sanificazione degli spazi per poter riaprire il circolo e riprendere i corsi in sicurezza
- digitalizzare il tesseramento per adeguarci alla nuova situazione creatasi a seguito dell’emergenza sanitaria in corso
- continuare a sostenere la Transónica Tango Orchestra che sta proseguendo il suo cammino a distanza

at the beginning of this emergency, we informed you that in due course we would write to you to inform you about the financial health of the ZOO.
Following the measures implemented by the Italian Government to contain the spread of the virus all ZOO’s activities were suspended. To date it is not possible knowing when we will be able to resume courses, milongas with live music, our associative life. What we know so far is that we will gradually resume our associative life, as it is happening for everybody all around Europe. The very nature of our passion is at the heart of this emergency. We will have to be patient, without losing trust confidence.
The ZOO is not just any place. The ZOO represents or has represented a second home for many of us, a "safe harbour that awaits ships in search of shelter from the storms of the hectic everyday life that is out there" as a friend and member wrote to us; it is the place to spend mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, in the company of new and old friends, live music, gin & tonic, breakfast after yoga, knitting and tea; it is the place to breathe through movement, to live a newborn passion, a dance sought for many years; it is the place to celebrate Christmas with friends, away from home and yet at home; it the place of forgotten-and-then-found shoes, moments of suffering, but also of great joy, of nights that become sunrise while dancing, of a smile that is denied but also given, of a shy but sincere embrace, of the emotion of feeling free in dance, in movement, in music.
The place where you can simply be yourself.
Since 2007 in the via Fiume building in Udine, a pedacito de historia del tango and more has passed through this loft-renovated factory of the 1920s: almost all the best orchestras from Buenos Aires and Europe, DJs, the new generation of dancers, readings, meetings, exhibitions, friends, many. The ZOO is a reference point for the tango community, not only in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Always trying to be hospitable in these years we have proposed new and sometimes alternative disciplines, presenting them with curiosity and professionalism: among the few in our region to permanently hold courses of Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic, we were launching Yoga & Breakfast and Dance for Non Dancers .
Our social soul has embraced the fascinating world of swing, involving a new generation of young and enthusiastic dancers: thanks to strong and volcanic collaborations, this new reality has created a social and musical space that was missing in Udine creating the conditions for this dance and live music to meet.
And in June 2019, supported by the incredible enthusiasm our members, we started a project that is currently unique in Italy: the creation of a stable Argentine tango orchestra, the Transónica Tango Orchestra.
The COVID - 19 emergency hit the Association while it was in a delicate financial phase, exposed for the investments made to restructure the ZOO and to support the Transónica Tango Orchestra in its initial development phase. Even with the space closed, the Association still had to bear both fixed and administrative expenses.
In this period many of you have expressed us their affection and the desire to support the ZOO. We thank you deeply. We now open a fundraising whose proceeds will help to ferry the ZOO through this complex economic situation until the resumption of normal activities. We know it is an economically difficult time for everyone: any amount will be important and appreciated. Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
With everyone's help we will be able to:
- continue to pay the management costs of the club: rent, insurance, bills, accountant, secretary, taxes
- continue to pay the installments of the € 5,000 debt contracted with the bank and used for the last restructuring of the space
- allow us to adapt the ZOO to the new sanitizing provisions of the spaces in order to reopen the club and resume courses safely
- digitilize the membership process to adapt it to the new situation created following the ongoing health emergency
- continue to support the Transónica Tango Orchestra which is continuing his journey in compliance with the lockdown restrictions
