Maura e Luciano sono i genitori di tre splendidi ragazzi: Giacomo di 18 anni, Matteo di 14 anni e Tommaso di 10 anni.
Nel 2011 la vita serena della loro famiglia viene stravolta quando, a seguito della nascita del figlio più piccolo, qualcosa va storto.
Durante il parto cesareo, con la puntura spinale anestesiologica, si sviluppa un’infiammazione che innesca una reazione del sistema immunitario di Maura; ne segue una Polineuropatia Motoria, Sensitiva, Infiammatoria, Cronica di tipo Mielino-Assonopatico.
Gli eventi che seguono la portano ad essere ricoverata, da quasi 5 anni, nella Camera 20 della disponibile e preparata Clinica di Riabilitazione Toscana di Terranuova Bracciolini (Ar), struttura che l'ha presa a cuore.
Tracheostomizzata, Maura non può parlare, muoversi, mangiare o respirare in autonomia. Lei, da sempre solare, travolgente e “chiacchierona”, oggi può comunicare solo tramite un pc ed un puntatore oculare.
È fondamentale che siano urgentemente attivate le cure promesse e concordate dalla Direzione della Riabilitazione con gli specialisti dell’Ospedale fiorentino di Careggi, i quali potranno recarsi in missione o prenderla in carico presso il Presidio di degenza, per sorvegliare la somministrazione delle terapie (plasmaferesi, immunoglobuline, boli di cortisone e monoclonale Rituximab).
È importante e onesto che a Maura e a tutta la sua famiglia siano riconosciute le responsabilità di operato e di omissione medica, siano riconosciuti gli errori commessi, siano riconosciute quelle risorse dovute per i trattamenti terapeutico-riabilitativi, alcuni di questi ormai permanenti, per le stesse responsabilità di operato e di omissione medica e per quegli errori commessi.

In 2011, their peaceful family life is given a twist when, following the birth of the youngest son, something goes wrong.
During the caesarian delivery due to the spinal anaesthesia, an inflammation is developed and it triggers a reaction in Maura’s immune system. A Chronic Motory and Sensitive Inflammatory Demyelinating Axonal Neuropathy follows.
Other events follow and they lead her to end up being recovered , for almost 5 years, in the obliging and professional Tuscan Rehabilitation Centre in Terranuova Braccciolini (Ar), Italy, where she has been taken to heart and is still hosted in Room no. 20.
Being tracheostomized, Maura cannot speak, move, eat or even breathe autonomously. She, who has always been radiant, overwhelming and very “chatty”, can now only communicate by an eye-pointer interaction device.
It is of utmost importance that the necessary treatments discussed and agreed upon by the Directorate of The Rehabilitation Centre and the medical specialists of the Careggi Florentine hospital, be activated urgently. The medical specialists would be able to go on a mission at her present hospitalization facility and take charge of the administration and supervision of the necessary treatments (plasmapheresis, immunoglobins, bolus steroid therapy and the monoclonal antibody Rituximab)
