EMERGENCY SUPPLIES FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN LOMBOK

Hello all. I am Dhika from Jakarta and have lived in Gili Trawangan, (North of Lombok) for five years as a business owner. With my friends mixed; Belgian/ Indonesian, British, Danish and German, I have started an emergency relief fundraiser to support the victims in Lombok after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck on 5th August and caused devastation.

Since the first earthquake, my team, Alice and myself have been out to deliver emergency supplies to the earthquake victims. Alice Cronin Smith was evacuated with me after the earthquake and as a close friend of four years, she is the beneficiary for my campaign. Alice will transfer the funds to our group to provide relief both short and long term for Lombok. She can do this via paypal, internet banking or western union where we know the money is accounted for and safely sent.

Our team has already received private donations to help sick, hungry and homeless earthquake victims. To date, we have spent more than 40 mil IDR (GBP 2000£) and have visited 30 camps with necessities. With two  trucks from INDOCATS and DEJAVU  (privately owned companies) which have police sirens, we avoid 75 percent of traffic but still endure long drives in between camps. In total there are  4 cars, 4 motorbikes, 1 doctor and 1 big storage room that assists in safe delivery of the supplies.

For camps with [phone redacted] people, we are currently supplying and providing up to date receipts for:

THE BASICS: Water, Rice, Noodles.

DISEASE PREVENTION: Garlic,Turmeric, Chili, Ginger, Spinach, Eggplant, Cabbage, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Beans, Kale, Snake fruit, Oranges, Dried fish, Tofu, Soya beans, Onion, Carrot.

CANNED: Sardines, Corned beef, Tuna, Sweet Corn.

SANITARY: Soap, Shampoo, Mosquito Spray, Anti bacterial gels, Tooth paste, Tooth brushes, Wet wipes, Nappies, Baby powder, Baby oil, Sanitary towels.

MEDICAL: Pain killers, Inflammatory creams, Dihhorea treatment, Plasters, Bandages, Cold/Flu tablets, Wound dressings.

CHILDREN: Toys,  Books, Coloring pencils, Baby Milk.

SLEEP: Blankets, Pillows, Mattresses, Sheets, Tents

CLOTHING: Underwear, T shirts, Trousers, Shoes, Socks,  Sarongs, Jumpers, Dresses

Now that the earthquakes have reduced to a few per week with magnitude 5.5 or less, we will ensure that camps in high risk area's are also now provided with:

TEMPORARY HOUSING/ NURSERY ROOMS: Strong bamboo structured buildings cause less damage when affected by an earthquake unlike concrete which is fatal. The structures can be built in the camps to provide more support during rain season. (The averaged cost for a two bedroom bamboo tent is £280/5 MILLION IDR)

TEMPORARY BATHROOMS: (One portable toilet is £100/ 2 MILLION IDR) 

Women and children will have  the first homes and this could provide a great example for other charities to lead by until the government provides a more permanent solution.

Please note: Indonesia has NOT declared this crisis to be a national disaster so foreign aid has been few and far between.

As survivors of the earthquakes we have been highly affected by the visual and physical consequences yet still ensure that the people here in Lombok, Indonesia receive the comfort they deserve.
