S.O.S Belgian Floods Inondations Overstromingen

We are are the organizers behind www.aidehulp14-7.com. After seeing the ravages of flooding in Wallonia, oftentimes with 5m/16ft of water, Lien De Leenheer (39) and Ilse Van Dyck (35) launched an aid platform in only 3 hours' time.
"On July 14th, Belgium was hit by the biggest crisis situation since World War II. Thousands of people had to leave their homes, hundreds lost their loved ones and homes. 20.000 families will not have access to electricity, gas or water for weeks or even months. The damage and loss are enormous. It will take weeks, months, even years before the damage is repaired in the affected regions. This affects all Belgians in the depths of their humanity.
On our platform we can see how big the heart of the Belgians is. On July 21st, 437,000 people had already visited our platform, 3237 aid items had already been created. Facebook support groups are full of messages. People are making houses, apartments and stables available. Grandmothers want to look after children. Beds, closets, down comforters are donated. Widowers donate the clothing of their deceased wives. Everywhere fundraisers spring up. Butchers offer meals. Transport companies want to bring donations to the affected regions selflessly. People who have nothing offer their arms and time. Firefighters, psychologists and nurses are impatient to put their professional crisis experience to use on the ground. The immense solidarity is humbling and deeply touching. "
Where will your donations go to?
In the past days it has become clear that there is an urgent need for food donations on the ground. The gas and electricity grid is destroyed. Kitchens are fully destroyed and supermarkets are destroyed. People had 1,5 meter of water in their homes (that's 5m above normal waterlevel!)
We won't be paying for people, only for food and maybe renting technical material
As we go, and see that needs evolve, we might spend them on new urgencies. We will communicate them as they occur.

First donations we have already spent:
€1045, We bought a mobile kitchen unit (4 gas fires, big pots, and pans, etc.) for a neighborhood in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont. This makes them self-sufficient to cook meals for +- 200 people in the area. Their ground floors are entirely destroyed and it might take up 6 months before they have fully functioned kitchens again. Santa is the 'Mami/Nonna' of the area, and as such her garden is the perfect place for people to find some psychological support in their distress. A little corner of love.
€340: Participation in meal cost for 500 meals (soup, main dish, coffee, and cookies), most of the ingredients were donated, we paid for meat and the cookies. 100 warm meals in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont. 400 warm meals (soup + main dish) in the evacuation center of Tillf (Chateau Brunsode).
Expected (budget is being discussed): Covering the full cost for 250 warm meals in the evacuation center of Tillf (Chateau Brunsode).
