Soraya's Fight For Home

Our ViaQuest Hospice team is reaching out to each and everyone of you to help a special cause.
In the picture you see two very amazing people, Soraya and Ernest Walton. Soraya has been fighting breast cancer for quite a while now, but since first diagnosed it has metastasized to her bone, spinal cord, and brain. This lady is a fighter and wants to continue the fight but her doctors tell her that she is not strong enough and there is nothing more that can be done for her at this time. Hospice care was then elected.
Soraya is now bed bound and depends on others for complete care. She still has her mental cognition with periods of confusion. Her only wish at this time is to be able to go home and spend her last days with her husband of 13 years Ernest.
Ernest is one of the proudest men I have ever met. He loves his wife like nothing I have ever seen before. Ernest works for Thrifty car rental at the Columbus airport. He is a mechanic there making a modest salary but has to be the most dedicated employee I have ever seen and beams with pride when he talks about being part of a team that continually puts Thrifty at the top of the charts on rental company's. When talking to him it was easy to see his passion. I was wondering if Thrifty knew exactly what a dedicated and proud employee they had, that actually loves what he does. If not they should and that will be my next task.
Since Soraya's fight began Ernest has been by her side and as a result has missed multiple days of work without pay. This has resulted in them getting behind in their rent by about 6 months and the rent is $600.00 a month with a $50 late fee for each month they were late. They just recently got an eviction notice. They have also gotten extremely far behind on their utilities and have trouble keeping those from getting turned off. Ernest has been offered FMLA but that is not paid time off. He now cannot be with his wife when she needs him most because he has to work to survive himself. Not only is he working 8 hours a day but there is now overtime due to a recall. This leaves him working long hours and Soraya alone most of the time. She has to live in a facility because Ernest is not able to stay at home to be her 24/7 caregiver and they cannot afford to hire anyone.
I asked Ernest recently, if we could get the bills caught up would he be able to take FMLA and be Sorayas 24/7 caregiver so we can get her home. He said absolutely without hesitation. This is where he wants to be and Soraya definitely longs to be. I asked him then if I could have them sign a media consent so I can begin the fight for them and they elected to do so. I have not only set this account up but I have also wrote Thrifty, Ellen, and Steve Harvey. Long shots? absolutely but right now time is not on their side and I want to do everything in my power to help them make this a reality.
Right now Soraya still has most of her cognition but she does go into deep dreams and wakes up thinking they are reality. Yesterday she told one of our nurses that the landlady presented them with a signed deed to give them the house free and clear. She also said that all the utilities were paid up and explained she didn't know how it happened but is was by the Grace of God. Ernest then spoke to our nurse after the visit to explain the dreams she has and said that never happened but he hasn't had the heart to tell her yet.... Heartbreaking.
We are asking for 10,000 to catch up all of their bills, give them some extra to live on for the time being, and make funeral arrangements.
Please open your hearts and wallets. Soraya said that even a crumb will help them. Let's get this beautiful woman home to her husband and let them spend these last days together in thier own home where they have spent the last 13 years creating memories. Time is not on thier side and it is the one thing that will fullfill her last wish and dream. June 27th is thier wedding anniversary, and Ernest's Brithday. It would be amazing if we could hit the goal by then and get Soraya home!!!
Thank you so much!!
