Sophie's Soldiers

Sophie Gehrke is typically a Happy 5 year old who is everyone's friend and gives the best hugs. Unfortunately right now she is a sick little girl who could use your help.
Throughout her short life Sophie has endured more than most of us, five hospital stays and seven surgeries; two of which were open heart surgeries and one placement is a pacemaker.
On Wednesday, November 29th Sophie was admitted to Sanford Children's Hospital. On Thursday, November 30th Sophie was airlifted to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital with a severe infection in both her body and blood. On Friday the doctors performed surgery and decided the best thing for Sophie was to remove her pacemaker.
Sophie is currently intubated and has a wound vacuum in her open incision. The doctors are currently giving her IV antibiotics to get rid of the infection.
Sophie's prognosis changes daily. What we do know is she will continue her antibiotics for 4-6 weeks and sometime in the near future will get a new pacemaker.
