On Wednesday, October 25th, 2-year-old Sophie and her parents Marta and Endory were at the airport gate in Cancun, Mexico getting ready to board their flight home from a family vacation. The flight was delayed multiple times over when Sophie's parents realized that her lips were turning blue and she was struggling to breathe. The airline crew immediately called for emergency personnel and she was rushed to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival in the ER, Sophie was immediately put into an induced coma and on a ventilator, all without mom and dad understanding what all was happening due to the language barrier of being in a foreign country. Her lungs were not working and a nightmare began to unfold.

<div>Sophie was eventually diagnosed with ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) caused by pneumonia that developed very aggressively. She is in the ICU, still in the induced coma and on a ventilator, fighting for her life. It's now known that there is a bacterial infection, along with the rhinovirus. The family is trying hard to pay for her care, that as of the morning of October 28th amounted to US$34,032.75. At this hospital, any and all treatment needs to be paid in advance in order for her treatment to continue. Doctors at this time do not say how many days she will still need to be in the ICU, and with each new day their balance grows an additional US$12,500 at least. The future is unclear as we don’t know what the lasting effects of this induced coma will be on her little body. Doctors have eluded to the potential need for several therapies, but it is still too soon to know.

<div>We have seen God's hand moving in multiple different parts of this ongoing story, beginning with their flight home being delayed several times. Their doctor informed them that if Sophie had boarded that plane, she would not have made it. That is a miracle in itself and is evidence of divine intervention. We are anxiously awaiting the day we'll get to see her blue eyes and beautiful smile again. Thank you for taking the time to read Sophie's story and for praying for her. Any help is appreciated!

O voo foi adiado várias vezes, e foi nesse momento que os pais da Sophie perceberam que seus lábios estavam ficando azuis e ela estava tendo dificuldades para respirar. A equipe da companhia aérea imediatamente chamou por socorro de emergência e ela foi levada às pressas para o hospital mais próximo. Ao chegar à emergência, Sophie foi imediatamente colocada em um coma induzido e ligada a um ventilador, tudo isso sem que mamãe e papai entendessem o que estava acontecendo devido à barreira do idioma em um país estrangeiro. Seus pulmões não estavam funcionando e um pesadelo começou a se desenrolar.

<div>Sophie foi eventualmente diagnosticada com Síndrome do Desconforto Respiratório Agudo (SDRA), causada por uma pneumonia que se desenvolveu de forma muito agressiva. Ela está na UTI, ainda em coma induzido e ligada ao ventilador, lutando por sua vida. Agora sabemos que há uma infecção bacteriana, juntamente com o rinovírus. A família está se esforçando para pagar pelo tratamento dela, que até a manhã de 28 de outubro somava US$34.032,75. Neste hospital, qualquer tratamento precisa ser pago antecipadamente para que o tratamento dela continue. Os médicos, neste momento, não podem dizer por quantos dias ela ainda precisará ficar na UTI, e a cada novo dia o saldo aumenta em pelo menos mais US$12.500. O futuro é incerto, já que não sabemos quais serão os efeitos duradouros desse coma induzido em seu pequeno corpo. Os médicos têm mencionado a possível necessidade de várias terapias, mas ainda é cedo demais para saber.

O médico deles informou que se Sophie tivesse embarcado naquele avião, ela não teria sobrevivido. Isso por si só é um milagre e evidência de intervenção divina.
