Sophia loved the idea and set out squeezing lemons by hand, and making the cookies from scratch. She painted a sign; we gave her a cash box to keep her earnings; she learned how to use a hand-counter to track units sold, and just like that she was in business.
Since then, Sophia has opened her stand in front of our house every year, baking and squeezing and raising over $2,000 in generous donations for the girls at the Piyali Learning Center (paceuniversal.org). At the Pace HQ in Santa Barbara she has an account named 'Sophia's Playground', and her funds have helped to construct the playground on the new school campus in Kolkata, India.
Sophia turns 10 in February of 2018 and now that she is old enough, she has been invited by school founder and friend, Deepa Willingham, to travel with a group to India and meet the girls in January. Travel expenses to cover Sophia's trip are $4,000, of which $375 will go to sponsor a student at the school for one year.
We ask your generous support in making this trip of a lifetime happen for Sophia, whose dreams are as big as her heart. Every dollar counts toward her goal, and no donation is too small. We thank you in advance for your love, support and prayers for safe travel.
