As many of you know, I’m currently a junior at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, MI and a very passionate artist and illustrator! I spent three years at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, MI earning two Associate’s Degrees—one in Art Foundations (Fine Art) and the other in Ceramics. Upon graduating HFC I began pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration from KCAD. My goal is to illustrate book covers and children’s books!
While in my first semester here at KCAD I got wind of a study abroad trip that would be traveling to Italy during the Summer 1 semester, from June 16th-29th. We will be traveling to places like Pompeii, Florence, and Rome. These are all places I have dreamt of going to for quite some time, especially to see things like the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel. While KCAD offers study abroad trips almost every summer, this will be my only opportunity to go, and my last opportunity to travel outside of the United States with an educational institution, as my expected graduation date is May of 2019. Considering all factors, I bit the bullet and put down the deposit amount to hold my spot on the trip, as this is something I would really like to take part in. However, it has added an increased financial burden onto my cost of tuition. Here is a breakdown of the financials:
Estimated tuition for Spring 2018 after aid: $1,982
· (To be paid from January-March)
Estimated cost of Italy trip: $3,300
Payment #1 ($1,000) due Jan. 26th
Payment #2 (estimated $2,300) due Mar. 28th
Estimated cost of Summer 2018 (1 & 2 semesters): $4,077
· (There will be some aid available for me to receive during the summer semesters, but it is not guaranteed)
While I have been very fortunate to receive scholarships, financial aid, and work part-time throughout my higher education the cost of KCAD is almost four times what I was paying at HFC. I do not want to pass up the opportunity to go on this trip because of inadequate funds. Therefore, I am giving crowdfunding a try!
My goal for this campaign is $6,000 because I would like to have enough funds raised to cover the cost of the trip and to have some funds left over for when I am traveling. If there are leftover funds after that, they will all go to pay for tuition in the coming semesters.
To show my appreciation and gratitude, I want to do my best to give back to those who are willing to help me travel to Italy! If you donate to my trip I will be giving you one of my pieces of artwork! Here’s how it works:
$5-$12 Handmade pair of ceramic earrings or small ceramic tumbler
$13-$30 Handmade ceramic mug
$31-$50 Handmade ceramic bowl
$51-$100 Print of an original crosshatch ink drawing
$101-$200 Print of an original oil painting
$300 and above Your own commissioned piece! (acrylic on canvas, size TBD)
Thank you for helping in whatever way you can!
