Hello Friends!

I came home in the beginning of May prepared for a carefree and amazing summer, but my world was rocked when one of my best friends, Sophia Marcinko, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma on June 8th. This is not something anyone wants to hear, especially as a 19 year old who has such a bright future ahead of her. Almost immediately, she began chemotherapy treatments that will most likely last the rest of the summer. Although most people would be devasted by this news, Sophia has remained as strong as anyone in her situation can be. She never fails to laugh and she has not let this diagnosis become the focus of her life. Instead, she finds enjoyment in Pittsburgh Penguins hockey, Harry Styles' music, relaxing in the pool, working at American Eagle, drinking Dunkin' Donuts coffee, and creating memories with her friends and family. Despite having days where she is extremely tired, she has still been able to live a fairly normal life thus far. However, as she continues to go through treatments, there will be many more noticeable changes in her life. One of these is the loss of her hair. For anyone who knows Sophia, they know how much she loves her long beautiful hair. Recently, she made a change and cut 10 inches off her hair, helping her ease into the process of losing her hair. She donated what she cut off in order to help someone else in need. She has always been slightly self conscious about her "bowling ball shaped head," as she calls it, but that is now something she is going to have to embrace. She wants to purchase a wig to give some normality to her life and help her feel beautiful again when the time comes that she loses her hair.  However, wigs are extremely expensive, especially ones made to look as real as can be. She found one she absolutely loves, but the cost of the wig on top of other medical expenses may be infeasible for her and her family. I am starting this campaign for Sophia and her family so they can not only afford this wig but also to help with the many other medical expenses that will be coming their way. Any amount of donation will be greatly appreciated to make this time slightly easier for Sophia and her family.

Thank you all.
