Sophia's Bar Prep
Please consider helping out a recent law school graduate with Bar Prep expenses. I graduated from Western New England University, School of Law with my J.D. and a Concentration in Public Interest Law in 2018. I have since completed an LL.M. in Immigration and Naturalization law with Thurgood Marshall School of law.
I have attempted the Florida Bar exam without any sort of formal Bar Prep course in July of 2019 but failed by a few points. I am positive that a formal course will make the necessary difference in helping me to pass.
For those who may be unaware, passage of a State Bar exam is necessary for someone, even with a law degree, to practice law as an attorney. My goals following passage of the exam are to practice immigration law for the necessary seven years before applying to become an Immigration Judge.
Since I was young, I have faced many obstacles that may have steered someone else away from the high goals and expectations I set for myself. I have overcome a great deal of adversity to get where I am today and am proud of my achievements, especially as someone who has attained a law degree at the young age of 24. Having been a child that grew up in a low-income household, the product of immigrants and refugees, and in physically abusive environments on multiple occasions, I understand the very challenging hardships that my future clients face. My greatest goal in life is to render as much aid as I possibly can to as many people as possible. I want to be the voice that someone needs to get ahead in life.
I have recently, within the past year, escaped from the hold of a very controlling and abusive situation at the hands of some of my relatives. I have spent this time finding ways to get myself into a safer situation, without reliance on anyone else. I strive to be as independent as possible as I never like to feel like a burden on anyone, and would prefer to provide help rather than ask for it. Retaking the Bar exam is going to cost $450, which I can foresee myself saving by the deadline. The Preparatory Course, however, is going to cost $2,500.00. I hope that, in the future, such a number will not intimidate me as much as it does now. While I have been studying from materials provided to me from the generosity of prior classmates and colleagues, I feel that I need a more guided preparation that a course like that provided from Kaplan can provide to me.
If you can find it within your means to help me achieve my goals, I will be more than appreciative. I do not expect that I will raise the full amount I need to pay for my Bar Prep course, but I hope that this "gofundme" page will help me arrive closer to my means. I, in no way, seek to impose this request on anyone, but if you are able and willing to help, I appreciate it greatly. If you have even read this read this request and considered a donation, thank you.
