Sophia Fulton is one of the next generation of competitive surfers representing Australia at this years ISA World Titles in Japan this September and currently on the WSL World Qualifying Series. She travels with her mum Rachelle whilst her dad Graham and brother, Harry, stay home and work the family business.
Sophia has just completed a successful leg of the WQS in South Africa and is off to California this month, followed by Spain and then on to Japan with Team Australia for World Champs.
Although Sophia has some local backing of which she is very appreciative, the airfares, accomodation and travel expenses are very costly, even when trying to do it all on the cheap.
Sophia is only 15 so mum or an adult must always travel with her for hire cars and just generally helping her stay safe on the road.
I really want to see Sophia get to the World Titles and compete for the rest of the year with her dream being qualifying for the elite WSL (World Surf League). She has moved up to a ranking of 33 from nowhere and hopes to go up, up, up. That’s where you guys come in. If we can reduce some of the financial burden and guarantee she gets to the events then I’m sure Sophia will do the rest.
