College Supplies for First Gen College Student

My name is Kora Botta, I am a Junior in Highschool near Portland, and I am raising money for my future college needs.

When I was younger, my parents always told me I could be whatever I wanted to be, If I tried hard enough. They told me that I would get far in life and that if I wanted to go to college I could become the first in my family to Graduate. I wanted to make them proud and at 11 years old, I busted my butt and got straight A's my 6th-grade year, and kept going. I have surprised myself and have managed to keep those straights A's all the way to my Junior year. When I started getting good grades in my 6th year my parents started asking me what I wanted to be. I jumped around from Astronaut to mechanical engineer, to maybe even a doctor.

When I entered Highschool I finally figured out what I wanted to be, an Architect. I looked at colleges from the west to the east coast. Hawaii to England, I even considered France, crazy right? I always saw college as being YEARS away, and that I would worry about the technical things like money when I got closer to it. I looked at price ranges from 30,000 to 75,000. And shocker, my top was Tulane, where the average tuition is 74,000. I don't know why I still even consider going. But that little blind period, it ended. I have 2 years till I'm in college, and I just looked and I get no financial aid.  And you may think that it's not a big deal but it is huge for me. Especially with the cost of the colleges, I'm looking at. And I know that I should look for cheaper colleges if I can't pay but it is crazy to think that I would have to sacrifice a good education because I don't have the money. My parents love me greatly but arent going to pay a cent of my college. I fully understand them wanting me to be independent, the people I am frustrated at are the creators of FASFA. They assume that all parents pay for their kid's college. That's not true. None of my friend's parents are doing that for them. Although I might have only gotten a couple thousand, that would have paid for at least my school supplies.

Architecture school is very expensive no matter where you go. Adding on all the supplies costs never helps. If you have even gotten this far, which I thank you for, all I ask, is for a little bit to help with those supplies. This would help me feel secure and know that just because I don't have a lot of money, I can still graduate. One thing that I am not telling anyone, is that if, in some crazy world, that you help me raise any money, I'm splitting it all with my friends. Because they deserve a chance. Just because we don't grow up rich, doesn't mean we don't deserve to not have a chance at a degree. I want to thank you for even just reading my story and even considering donating. I hope you are safe and healthy with these times.
