Thanks so much to all of you that have been praying and supporting my friend, Sonya. After a long discussion with Sonya, I made the decision to raise the goal to $20,000.  If you have been following Sonya’s updates and posts on Facebook, you know how challenging this journey has been, both on her body and financially. With your support, Sonya has been able to take off a few days from work, when she is ill because of her treatments. The treatments sometimes makes her feel like she has the flu and at times  she is so weak and tired she just needs to rest. This treatment has also been fianancially burdensome, as you can imagine.  Please continue to pray for Sonya as she fights this battle. #SonyaStrong needs our assistance! Every dollar helps and no amount is too small to help us reach this goal! Sonya and I thank you for your prayers and support! Sending love and blessings to you all!!! With gratitude and appreciation, thank you!  Please read her story below and watch her video. More videos and updates of her journey can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Utube! She’s an amazing and inspiring woman! Love you, Sonya!!!

My friend, Sonya Goins, is one of the most upbeat and inspiring person I know. She’s always encouraging her Facebook friends to make the most of every day. When she posts about her battle with Crohn’s Disease, she uses a fitting hashtag--#SonyaStrong. Unfortunately, Sonya had a setback recently and can use your help…
Sonya has been fighting Crohn’s, a horrible digestive disease, for more than 30 years. I’m always amazed how she manages to work hard, take care of her kids, raise money and awareness for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation…all the while dealing with her illness. It’s not unusual for Sonya to get blood infusions or take medicine intravenously. Sometimes she is even hospitalized for a few days at a time.

But 2018 brought bad news for Sonya. She was in the hospital from New Year’s Day through January 9th. She has a $3,000 deductible to meet before her health insurance kicks in, and her job does not offer any short-term disability pay.

But, that's not the worst of it...Sonya just found out that she is unable to eat for the next six months to a year. We are not talking about giving up candy for Lent. Sonya cannot eat ANYTHING!!!! Instead, she will be hooked up to a catheter that will feed her. She has decided to name her catheter “Hopeful”.  Doctors are hopeful, too—they think months without food may help heal Sonya’s digestive tract. Even though Sonya is unable to eat and is being feed by catheter, she will have to head back to work soon and is even planning to start working out again.  She is  planning to walk in a charity half marathon March 4th in New Orleans!  That's our #SonyaStrong!

So how can you help?

• Donate $5, so Sonya can purchase flavored water. The only thing she can have for the next several months is water…that and an occasional cup of broth.

• Donate $10, and buy a prepared meal for Sonya’s 18-year-old son Jonathan. Sonya is a "helluva" cook, but it’s no fun making meals when you can’t even taste your own cooking.

• Donate $100 to cover Sonya’s lost wages and other miscellaneous expenses related to this disease. During one recent pay period, Sonya only had 52 hours instead of the normal 80 hours during a pay period. She also has other expenses such as parking fees associated with her doctor appointments and medical expenses that are not covered by her insurance.

• Donate any amount, and you’ll start chipping away at Sonya’s deductible. $3,000 is a lot of money, but together we can help Sonya get there fast.

Sonya’s an incredible person. Just watch this video and you will see for yourself.  For those of us that know Sonya know how strong and inspiring she is, but there are times when even the strong need a helping hand  and prayers of encouragement and inspiration.

If each of you reading this can assist in any way, big or small, it will allow Sonya to focus on getting well.  Monthly donations can also be made via credit card if that is more convenient for you.

Crohn’s is one nasty chronic disease. Please help Sonya fight it! THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE! No amount is too small!!!! We love and appreciate your prayers and any financial support you are able to provide!!!
