My sister, Sonya Coburn, is the strongest woman I know. She has the strength to manage multiple health issues while being a full time teacher, and a single parent. These are just a few of the reasons I believe in the insane amount of strength God has blessed her with. But, even the strongest need help from time to time.

In 2016 she had a surgery to remove a brain tumor that was wreaking havoc on her health. During that time she did not receive disability pay from her work. Yes, I know that is unfair, and we’ll all continue the good fight to help our underpaid teachers, and represent them... but, in the meantime Sonya has limped by, trying her best to modify her lifestyle to the bare minimum to make ends meet. And, ends still aren’t meeting.

After all of that she gave birth to her 3rd son Moses, who was a premie with a significant amount of health problems of his own that have proven to be very expensive, and required her to miss more work. And, to miss more pay to be the mom for him that he deserves. And, of course, when it rains, it pours. In addition to missing more work for her son, supporting him on her own, she also now has a myriad of gastrointestinal problems from an ulcer in her esophagus, to tears in her stomach, a hernia, and the tumor has returned. Yep, the brain tumor has returned, and I must admit I don’t even understand how she’s still smiling. When you put it all on paper, in black & white this all seems so unbelievably impossible to have all of this going on, and to continue to keep going. The tumor that has returned is on her sinus vein. The tumor will be zapped with radiation. She will miss more work, and will continue to receive a quarter of what she should be paid to reimburse the district for the time she’s lost. That’s right. Her paychecks have been a quarter of what they should be.

There is also a concern of fluid that will need to be drained, and a myriad of other medical concerns. She is working with the VA, and we’re all on our knees praying our heart out.

This is a lot for anyone to bear, but she stays optimistic, and downright grateful for the life, children, work, and family God has blessed her with, but she is in need of financial help. If you have $1, $5 or a prayer for her then please consider donating. Anything, and everything would be greatly appreciated. We understand that life is tight for all, and we will gladly accept prayers or the sharing of this post if you do not have the ability to donate to her. We love you all, and want to say God Bless you all.
