Sonya's Stem Cell Transplant
Donation protected
On March 6th, 2023, my wife Sonya was sent to Huntsville Hospital with blood work that was nowhere near normal. By the end of the evening, she was diagnosed with leukemia. After 26 days in Huntsville Hospital and 43 days in Vanderbilt Hospital, Sonya got diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia called mixed phenotype acute leukemia with Philadelphia positive chromosome. Her only hope is a stem cell transplant. Sonya had to endure hospitalized chemo treatments every three weeks, a stay in ICU for high blood sugars, a staph infection that put her in the hospital for ten days, and a broken ankle that caused her to have a blood clot. She has spent more time in the hospital since March than she has been out of the hospital.
It is now time for Sonya to have her stem cell transplant. Our medical insurance is going to take care of the medical bills. To have the transplant, Sonya and I will have to live in Nashville for at least 100 days. We have two choices. We can pay to live in an apartment or live for free in Hope Lodge. Hope Lodge has a lot of restrictions, and we lose the room every time Sonya must be put into the hospital, which will happen at least three or four time during the first 30 days. When she comes out of the hospital, we would most likely have to get a hotel room for a couple of nights.
The most desirable option is to get a furnished apartment that the hospital helps us to get. The problem is that apartments go for $2800 to $3500 a month which is more than we make with my salary each month. We are hoping to raise enough money to get an apartment for our entire stay but would be willing to get the apartment for the first 45 to 60 days. Any help would be appreciated.
