Sonny Needs Life Saving Surgery

Hello, my name is Ellie, and I'm fundraising to pay for life saving heart surgery for my 5 month old Goldendoodle puppy Sonny. He's a hugely loved puppy and is an adored member of our family.

Sonny's story so far...

We got Sonny at 8 weeks old in June 2022 after saving up to buy a puppy for 3 years. We immediately took out Petplan pet insurance and visited the vets for a check up. We thought we had done the right thing by getting pet insurance sorted and visiting the vets. On that first visit, the vet found a heart murmur but reassured us that this is fairly common in puppies and Sonny would most likely grow out of it.

Sadly the heart murmur remained, and after a heart scan, Sonny was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) - this condition means that without surgery, Sonny will die before he reaches his first birthday.

We’ve just learned from Petplan that they will not cover us for any treatment for Sonny's heart because the condition was pre-existing when we took out the pet insurance policy for Sonny.

Our family is completely shocked and devastated by this situation and we cannot imagine our family without our little ray of sunshine. He’s brought so much joy into our lives after a difficult few years.

I feel so uncomfortable asking for your money, especially when we are all struggling with the rising cost of everything already, but I cannot see any alternative to this horrible situation our family is in. I will be so grateful for any money you feel able to give - however big or small - every penny will go towards saving Sonny’s life.

A little bit about our family…

We are a family of 5 - mum, dad and 3 children. One of our children suffers from anxiety, and they take comfort in our 15 year old cat, Bailey. Bailey is this child’s support when life gets too difficult - their relationship is amazing.. After seeing this relationship develop over the years, we knew that a dog would be able to fill this role when Bailey passed on, which is when we began saving to buy a puppy. Bailey was diagnosed with stomach tumours in December 2021, and we know he does not have long to live. We had planned to make the passing of Bailey easier for the family by introducing Sonny. However, it’s so sad to know that this situation could bring even more heartbreak to our family.
