<div><strong>After fighting his wrongful conviction for nearly 22 years, Sonny Bharadia was finally fully exonerated on May 16, 2025.</strong> In the face of DNA evidence proving Sonny’s innocence, a confirmed alibi, unreliable eyewitness identification, and incentivized false testimony, the State previously acknowledged that the case against Sonny is “not viable” and on May 16, 2025, chose to fully dismiss all charges against him.

<div><strong>The path to Sonny’s exoneration was a long one.</strong> Sonny’s conviction was thrown out in April 2024, but his legal team was prepared for a potential re-trial while the State decided whether to continue prosecuting Sonny for a crime he clearly did not commit. While awaiting the State’s decision on prosecution, Sonny was granted bond and released from custody. On May 16, 2025, Sonny was fully exonerated when the State chose to dismiss the case against him. After fighting his wrongful conviction for almost 22 years, Sonny was finally vindicated in his quest to prove his innocence.

<div><strong>Though the future for Sonny is bright and he is working hard to set himself up for success, there's still a long road ahead.</strong> He spent 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Exonerees like Sonny are often left on their own to rebuild their lives after having decades of their lives taken away from them, which makes it very difficult to find employment, get housing, and access critical services.
