Hello friends, family, and caring strangers. My name is Sonja Lynn, and I am struggling to get by after multiple breast surgeries. For 20 years I’ve worked in the hospital systems, primarily in operating rooms. I have tried to live a life of service, including healthcare in under served parts of Africa, India, Guatemala, and Dominican Republic. Giving back and showing kindness is what makes my life worth living.
Many women in my family have suffered horribly from Cancer. In some cases, my loved ones died just weeks after diagnosis. Because of these odds, doctors advised me to get a genetic test to see my chances of this horrible phenomenon in my family. It came out positive.
After 20 years of watching and supporting surgery, I was then scheduled for my own double mastectomy. Which is when they found the cancer cells, after the double Mastectomy. Though successful, there were many complications afterwards. I ended up having my lymph nodes removed ( Sept 13,2019 ) , a partial reconstruction, muscle fiber tears, and the battle continues. I don’t sleep well due to the pain, I can’t exercise, ( which was my stress release) and I can’t begin to explain the emotional trauma that comes with having your breasts removed.
I was scheduled to return to work in September, but due to these complications, and excessive pain, I have not been able to do so. Because of these issues, and the need for additional surgery I have lost my job after 7 years at Orlando Health. While I am fighting this health battle, I do not have insurance coverage, and have no way to pay for the surgery. In the last year I have kept myself afloat by taking odd jobs, but it is inconsistent and very taxing. I’ve had no income during all this time and I have emptied my savings and IRA.
My final surgery is scheduled for March 18th, 2020, and I have to pay the full amount ($6,000), up front, February 21st. That amount will cover the surgery, but not the medicine and additional recovery time I may need. Even now, I don’t have the money to fill my prescriptions, and I don’t know what else to do. Anything you can do to help is so greatly appreciated.
