As some know our mom was diagnosed in 2012 with stage four non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Most people hear this news and become fearful of the future. Not our mom! She took her fear and placed it in gods hands. She continued to walk in the path of her faith and he answered. God blessed our mom with five wonderful years with no pain, no symptoms, and even better no treatment.
Years went by and she continued to stay stable and above all true to her beliefs. But in October of 2016 our mom began to show symptoms of what normally doctors would think were kidney stones. Unfortunately her cancer had grown and was starting to cause her to show symptoms. As our mom said, "It was time to put on our big girl pants and fight."
In November she started her first round of chemo and let me tell you she came out swinging. Showing the world and those around her that even through the darkest times she is still wonder woman deep down. But even with her symptoms improving our mom was hit with another battle. The chemo was only working in half of her body while other parts were growing. So her doctors regrouped and made a new plan. In April of this year she started a new round of chemo and would be traveling to Seattle for a stem cell transplant.
After her 3rd round of the new treatment my family packed up and headed for Seattle for the next 3 months. Over the weeks our mom stood strong as they ran every test they could think of to ensure she was ready for transplant. My family thought she was doing amazing! Collecting more than enough stem cells in one day! Something even her nurses said they don't see often. But on June 14, 2017 my family was hit with news we never expected. Her PET scanned showed the last chemo didn't work. She had too much lymphoma to be eligible for the transplant anymore. Once again her doctors regrouped and gave us the option of clinical trials. Tired and beaten down our mom put up her fist one more time and fought like hell. After receiving her first trial treatment my family kept to our faith and prayed for a good outcome.
But on July 5th she was admitted to the hospital for jaundice. The lymphoma was now pushing on her liver. The doctors once again gave us an option of intense chemo and surgeries to try and treat the lymphoma. This time our mom was not up for another fight. On July 7th she decided to hang up her gloves and prepare to go home. Once home she met with hospice and is enjoying every last day with the ones she loves.
With months of traveling and time off our family has taken an emotional and financial hit. Our parents have a lot of pride when it comes to asking for help and this is where my sister and I come in. Although they would never ask for handout we ask that if you feel up to it to donate to the Sonia Ramos aka the Wonder Woman fund. All money will go towards medical bills and future burial cost. However money or not we ask that you keep her in your hearts, and most importantly, your prayers. Love always the Ramos Familia
