If you have spent any time with my sister Sonia and her husband Darren, then you know what I'm referring to when I say that they embody the heart of what unity is. They are the ones that make it a point of maintaining communication among us, they go to great lengths to help organize events for the entertainment of others and they do so while always taking the time to make each of us feel cared for and loved. They have helped plan with painstaking detail numerous celebrations which we have enjoyed. They have gotten up early to help set up a party or perhaps stayed late to clean up after. They have continuously opened their home to all, and managed to provide delicious meals throughout. They wash clothes for the needy on Wednesdays and teach bible study to teens on Sundays. Sonia and Darren have joined us in cheering on our successes and they have supported us through our troubles. This list of what they give to each of us goes on and on, but only points further to the generous and loving nature that they have selflessly shared with us all. It is our turn to be the support they need.
After many years of trying unsuccessfully to grow their family, Sonia and Darren found out that she had a uterine condition that would make conceiving a child nearly impossible. With prayer and faith, she followed through with every painful procedure required to make that slim chance a reality. Unfortunately, instead of improving, they were told that her condition had actually progressed to endometrial cancer and she was left with no option but a hysterectomy and the loss of the opportunity to ever carry a child within her. She has beaten cancer but her desire for a child is unending. I´ve known Sonia my entire life, and never was there a woman more meant to be a mother - it has been devastating.
During the treatment phase of her illness, with the support of non-profit organizations and their remaining savings, they were able to harvest a few eggs before the operation and attempted to fertilize some embryos - one was successful. This one embryo is frozen and waiting for a surrogate, and we can help make it happen! So now, I ask you to please unite with me in showing our support for Sonia and Darren and help make their dream of a baby a reality.
