Short film SONG OF THE OPEN ROAD

Donation protected

SONG OF THE OPEN ROAD is a 15 min drama written and directed by a Polish duo of Bristol-based female filmmakers, Sonia Wargacka and Weronika Dwornik. It tells a story of Alba, a visual performance artist in her late 20s who seems to have life sorted: friends love her, career couldn't have gone better, love life seems successful. But she has always been in full control of her life and this time it's not different; when she's diagnosed with Huntington disease like most members of
her family, she decides to take her own life leaving behind her greatest installation yet.

It's easy to talk about courage when you are not dealing with terrifying fatal genetic disease, but Alba is not willing to put up the fight. She creates another universe in her bathroom, her very own David Bowie glittery Narnia, where she chooses to take her life away as a part of a visual performance she has set up as her final statement as an artist. She does not want to see herself lose all the things she fought for so hard in her life - so she makes a decision to end her life before Huntington's disease takes over. She packs up her flat, donates her paintings to charity and sends her friends on holiday, and then, after having gotten into a special outfit and make up, she takes her life in a special UV lights universe she created. And slowly, controversially, beautifully, this is her end.

Thanks for reading this far! We have now started our GoFundMe campaign in order to get some funds for "Song of The Open Road".

Why do we need your support?

Because we have reached the point where we can get most of things for free, but need a bit of money to take this project further. We have now covered the cost of cast and crew as well as gear and post-production (thanks to generous support of Screenology Film School), but since the success of this film is highly dependent on its set design, we would like to ask you for your support!

We need the money for:

- set design materials (UV lights, UV paints, fabrics)

- set designer fee (and transport of all the props)

- location (or someone who can provide us with their bathroom ready to use and be transformed into a stunning mermaid universe for a day)

...so every little helps and we would be super grateful for any amount of financial support!

We are shooting over 5 days at the beginning of March, with a film completed and published by May 2018. We are running this campaign until the 20th of February.

We will make this film regardless of the success of this campaign, though we must admit it would really help us if we had the money to pay to our set designer to do a fantastic job!

If there is any money left, we will leave it for submission fees to film festivals.
