Something Happened in Our Town

In honor of Qorsho Hassan, 2020 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, and the anti-racist work she is doing in her classroom we are raising money to buy copies of the book "Something Happened in Our Town" for each of the 19 elementary buildings in District 196.

Qorsho recently used this book in her classroom and received public backlash from the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers  Association.   The book was written by psychologists and has won multiple awards.  Both the Minnesota Education and Health departments recommend the book on a list of resources about responding to racism.

If you stand with Qorsho and believe books like this are exactly what we need to be reading and discussing with kids in our classrooms, communities, and homes please consider donating to this fundraiser.  Let's show our support for Qorsho and anti-racist work in District 196.

When you know better you do better.  Let the stories be heard and let us learn from them.

Alissa Ehrich will be withdrawing and distributing the money on behalf of Community Members for Anti-Racist Education in 196.  Books for 196 libraries and BIPOC staff will be purchased through Moon Palace books in Minneapolis via check and the donation to 826MSP will be made via check.
