Somerville County Wildfire
Donativo protegido
My name is Brandon and I am asking for help for me and my Family living in Somerville County near Glen Rose Texas. We lost everything we had in the wildfires. Just very thankful and blessed that everyone is ok. On Monday afternoon Beth called me and asked me to come home because a wildfire had started close to Hwy 67. I thought surely that it would be contained before it got close to our house but with the dry conditions it had already made it within a mile of our house by the time I arrived. Still we only loaded up a few boxes and essentials figuring we would be returning later and everything would be fine. By the time we left the entrance to the road we could see the flames. Various fire departments were trying to back burn from CR 205 to stop the fire. Unfortunately the fire still jumped the road and couldn’t be contained. It burned down Beth’s parents house they had lived in for almost 30 years, left our house standing and burned down another family members house after ours. Our first reports were that we lost everything due to the intensity of the fire from 205. Then we were amazed to hear that it had left our house standing as well as her aunts house and the new house we were trying to build down the road. Unfortunately though over night our house as well as her aunts house re-ignited and burned down. We are still working to save the new house by clearing brush, creating fire lines, and watering the area. Very thankful to United Coop for getting out there and re-establishing electricity to our home and many others as quickly as they did, which allowed us to use the well to water the area around our house. Several local fire departments including Tolar Volunteer fire department tried to help us clear the area around our house as much as they could on top of handling fires that were re-igniting. Beth and I as well as her family have received overwhelming support from the Glen Rose community and friends and family. The help that was setup at the Expo Center and the amount of supplies that were donated to help people affected by the wildfire was truly the most amazing act of kindness that I have ever witnessed. We can never thank our fire fighters, United Coop, Hwy Patrol, sheriffs department, and first responders enough for what they have done. The Glen Rose medical center as well as other entities and organizations including the Red Cross were all on sight and at the Expo Center trying to help. Anyways people keep asking how they can help and I don’t know if it has even set in yet that we lost everything. We just keep asking for rain, for no one else to lose their homes, and for everyone to be safe.
