Some Jerk Stole Karen's Bike!
Donation protected
This is Karen. She is a polite, friendly and hard-working young woman from Japan, who recently moved to Coffs Harbour.
While attending our Salsa class at Coffs Harbour Showground on Sunday night (13/10), her pushbike was stolen by a hooded figure from outside the building. The bike was on loan from a woman she lives with, and being a deeply honourable person, Karen feels entirely responsible and generally terrible about the situation.
The bike was a Swedish brand called Monark, which are somewhat collectible, and start at $400 second-hand. Karen works in a packing factory, so while this might not be a lot of money to some people, it's a big hit for her. Nonetheless, she is determined to replace the bike, her ethics demand it.
Many people have commented that there are too many incidents like this in Coffs Harbour, it's just not good enough. But while there is a selfish, unsavoury element here, the overwhelming majority of Coffs Harbour residents have solid values, big hearts and believe this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable.
So rather than getting mad, and rather than getting even, let's get kind. $600 will enable Karen to replace her housemate's bike, as well as buy an inexpensive bike of her own (and a hardcore bike lock) so she can get to work and Salsa class.
No contribution is too small, it will all help, so please give if you can. Let's show Karen and each other (and the seedy elements of Coffs Harbour) who we really are and what the standard actually is around here.
Many thanks in advance,
