Somatic Coaching Training Fundraiser

“Who are you, and how are you using the powers of that self in the service of what you believe?” – Audre Lorde (1989)

Hello friends!

I’m embarking on a training program this fall – Somatic Coaching with the Strozzi Institute! I’m reaching out for support with the cost of course fees and travel, and to invite my community to be part of this embodied learning and transformation. I’m discovering the ways I need to grow to meet this opportunity – including asking for help to do something big.

The path of somatics is helping to clarify what matters most to me, as I orient more clearly towards individual and collective liberation. I’m leaning into authenticity and visibility in my work, with a commitment to bold and joyful belonging. Somatic practices are also softening how I respond to myself when I feel threatened, isolated, or despairing. I’m excited about this way of approaching embodiment and trauma work, as it offers a framework for strengthening my offerings as a healer. I appreciate how this lineage of somatics sees people in our social context, in our physical landscape and spirit, in our wholeness. Anyone who practices these embodied skills can increase their capacity to navigate an increasingly complex world.

While considering this program, I was nudged into action by the anti-trans legislation that was announced by the provincial government here in Alberta earlier this year. I have a strong desire to hone the offerings in my practice as I work alongside trans and non-binary young people – to nurture trans embodiment towards safety, belonging, and dignity – so we can all survive the challenges of living in this political climate.

I’ve been studying somatics for the past few years, through all the books and online events I can find. Now I’m ready to continue my studies in a vibrant and rigorous in-person learning environment. I started this process with an intro course in Oakland last summer, and continued online in the fall with the Politics of Trauma course. These experiences have allowed me to integrate somatic practices into my daily life, and to confirm that this is the direction I need to go in my work. This training isn’t available locally, so I’m committed to traveling to Petaluma, California.

The cost of the program is high: $14,950 USD, plus travel and accommodation. I’ve received a 10% scholarship from Strozzi Institute. Some students in the program have the cost reimbursed by their workplace or have family support, but I don’t have these options. My hope is to cover some of this cost through fundraising, to reduce the pressure of this financial commitment.

If 50 people donate $300, I’ll meet my goal. And if 500 people offer $30, I’ll get there too. This is a one-time request, and any amount will be gratefully received! I love seeing fundraisers that are truly crowd-sourced – where many small contributions add up to give someone a boost. (If a financial donation isn’t possible, I also welcome encouragement, travel points, or other forms of support.) Thank you for considering this request! Thank you for reading about what I’m up to!

Please share this invitation widely!

I also have new email newsletter , where I’ll send quarterly/seasonal updates about my learning and practice.

With love and possibility,
